A Grenade in Gold River?

Do *not* pull that pin!

It’s not the kind of thing you find every day

On Monday, RCMP closed off the wharf across from the Mowachaht/Muchalaht boat launch in Gold River after somebody found a grenade.

The RCMP treated the grenade as if it were active, just to be safe. But Sgt. Kim Rutherford of the Nootka Sound RCMP told Ha-Shilth-Sa that “from all accounts of the history of this device, it’s inactive”.

Rutherford said the RCMP figure it came from a broken down boat and got left behind on the dock. It’s possible to buy old military equipment like grenades once they’ve been deactivated.

RCMP spent 12 hours investigating after they were told about the grenade. They wouldn’t let anyone into the area because they wanted to use “extreme caution,” even though in the end it wasn’t that serious.
