Battle of the Breweries, Island-Style

One-Of-A-Kind Sporting Match to support the Dawn Till Dusk Homelessness Society

Keg Curling is catching on, what isn’t better with beer?

Curling isn’t exactly known as the most exciting sport in existence.

It’s calculated, takes perfect timing, and patience, and keeps the audience holding their breath.

However, Comox Valley Curling Club has found the perfect way to let players and audiences let loose and get crazy with it.

They’re using the most time-tested, guaranteed method to up the ante.

Beer.

The Comox Valley Curling Club just announced the third annual Battle of The Breweries Keg Curling Fundraiser, with all proceeds going to Dawn to Dawn Action on Homelessness Society.

The battle is truly the next level of innovation in curling.

It is the first-ever curling tournament to use beer kegs, and their level of originality has yet to be repeated.

These year’s competing craft breweries are Ace Brewing (the 2022 champion), Beach Fire, Cumberland Brewing, Gladstone, Hoyne, Land & Sea, Mount Arrowsmith and New Tradition.

It’s not just the curling team who will get to take part in the action either.

All spectators can shoot a beer keg themselves (for a $5 donation) at the intermission and will win prizes for getting their keg closest to the mark.

The competition winner will receive a year’s worth of bragging rights, $500 in advertising on Jet FM, and get to drink from the highly coveted trophy, the Kegoblet.

The battle is part of the Pros & Joes Funspiel in progress next weekend.

Adding to the fundraising from the curling showdown, the club will donate 50 cents from every beer sold that weekend to Dawn To Dawn.

Victoria’s Hoyne Brewing will also donate 50 cents from every Hoyne beer sold at the CVCC in March.

Show up on March 18th at 7:30 pm at Comox Valley Curling Center to participate.

Entrance is by donation.

After everyone has thrown down on the rink, you can head upstairs to throw down on the dance floor in a 90s after-party headed up by DJ Marc Gerrard.

Have fun and help out. It sounds like a pretty great weekend to us.
