The Stanley Cup Final has begun, and we have an amazing goalie from Vancouver Island in the spotlight.
Adin Hill, born in Comox, started in goal for the Vegas Golden Knights when they faced off against the Florida Panthers. he helped his team win Games One and Two with stellar netplay.
Hill had 33 saves in the first game and 29 in the second, only allowing two goals in each game to put his team up 2 – 0 in the series.
Hill has his Golden Eagles only two victories away from the Stanley Cup.
Hill has had some outstanding plays lately, taking over from Laurent Brossoit, another Island native from Port Alberni.
Hill has won nine out of eleven games, including two shutouts.
“It’s pretty surreal.” He said at the NHL’s media day. It’s what you kind of dream of as a kid.”
Hill’s earliest memory of the Stanley Cup is attending game six of the Final between the Tampa Bay Lightning and Calgary Flames.
He was just eight years old. Little did he know that years later, he would be playing in the Final himself!
Both teams are grinding for their first-ever Stanley Cup victory.
The Golden Knights are in their second Final in six seasons. The Panthers, on the other hand, haven’t reached the Final since 1996, ironically the year Hill was born.
Vegas has had a hell of a run to get here. They defeated the Winnipeg Jets and overcame the Edmonton Oilers – who have the world’s best players, Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl.
Finally, they bested the Dallas Stars in the Conference Finals.

Who knows? If the Golden Eagles win, Hill might bring the Cup back to the Valley later this summer.
