Are you the type of person who runs toward a burning building? Then the Courtenay Fire Department needs you.
They’re hosting an open house in late July to look for new recruits. The city’s volunteer firefighters are part of the backbone of the community. And the department trains new recruits so you can help keep folks safe.
The city’s fire department responded to a record number of calls in 2021. The city is growing, so more things can go wrong. The occasional dumpster fire and the year’s extreme weather events kept crews busy.
Deputy Fire Chief Jonathan Welsh says the department wants about ten new firefighters.
“We’ve worked hard to build a training program that will provide all the skills someone will need to achieve professional firefighter certification in one year—the same certification used by departments across North America,” he said in a statement.
What you need:
- To be 18 or older
- To be a Courtenay resident
- A valid driver’s license
- Current driver’s abstract
- Criminal record check
