Did you know it’s Tsunami Preparedness Week in BC? Because these friendly pups did, thanks to Tofino Dogsitting. And if you get yourself to high ground this week, you might just get to meet them!
Tofino is hosting a virtual High Ground Hike from April 10–16 to teach folks about what to do in the event of a tsunami.
Every now and again, Tofino gets a tsunami warning. There was one a few months ago when the volcano erupted off of Tonga. And the earthquake in Alaska last summer that EmergencyInfo BC couldn’t keep up with.
Being a coastal town means we practice how to help each other when disaster strikes.
The goal of this year’s High Ground Hike is to practice just that. Where do we go when the tsunami siren goes off? What do we grab from the house? How do we care for older folks who might have a harder time hiking up that hill?
This year’s hike is virtual, but you can still win lots of prizes. All you have to do is go to one of the tsunami safe assembly areas in Tofino and take a selfie. Then post your pic to Facebook or Twitter with the hashtag #HighGroundSelfie22.
Folks who post selfies will be entered to win prizes in the draw. One of the prizes is a ride in a fire truck for the kids.
You can also win grab-and-go backpacks and other emergency kits from PreparedBC. Not sure what to put in your emergency kit? Visit the PreparedBC website for more info.
