Honouring Campbell Riverites Who Welcome All

Not one, but two award winners!

“Either everyone counts or nobody does”

“When you have two amazing candidates, why only pick one?”

That’s what the Immigrant Welcome Centre (IWC) said about choosing to honour two candidates with their 2022 Ambassador Award.

Layne Marshal and Mayor Andy Adams were both awarded.

The organization said that they had both showed leadership when it comes to welcoming all newcomers and “acknowledging their diversity, humanity, and value.”

Layne Marshal is the chair of the Immigrant Welcome Centre board. He’s also a board member of both the local and provincial Chambers of Commerce, and a member of the Daybreak Rotary Club.

Mayor Andy Adams was nominated for his decades of service to the community of Campbell River as mayor, councillor, and member of various committees. He is a passionate voice for exchange student programs, and a long time supporter of the IWC.

Both men were thrilled to win the award. They spoke about how glad they are to embody the values of IWC.

“Either everyone counts or nobody does, and I’ve always tried to live by that thought,” said Marshal.

“We are so fortunate to be Canadians, and I am encouraged with how Campbell River is evolving into a truly multicultural community,” Adams said.

IWC’s Executive Director Jim Brennan congratulated both recipients for their outstanding service. He is excited to see this giving attitude grow in our community.

“Robert Greenleaf used to say ‘The first and most important choice that leaders make is the choice to
serve.'”

We’re happy to have these leaders in the community, and give a shout-out to everyone who helps lead us all toward a more caring future.
