It’s election day and I bet you can hardly contain your excitement.
But voting matters. And if you don’t vote, well, you’re checking out of the democratic process.
Plus, voting is sexy.
So, even if you think this election call was poorly timed, pour a fresh coffee in your travel mug and head to the polling station.
Here’s what you need to know to cast your ballot.
How To Vote
You have to be a Canadian citizen and 18 years old on election day.
You also need to bring ID and proof of your current residence to the polling station and you have 3 options.
Option 1: Show one of these pieces of ID
Driver’s license
Any other card issued by a Canadian government (provincial, territorial or federal) with your photo, name and current address.
Option 2: Show two pieces of ID
For example Voter Information Card and a bank statement, or a utility bill and student ID. For a full list of ID options click here
Option 3: If you don’t have ID
You can still vote if you declare your identity and address in writing and have someone who knows you and who is assigned to your polling station vouch for you.
Where To Vote
The voucher must be able to prove their identity and address.
The only remaining way to vote in this election is to go to your assigned polling station.
If you have a Voter Information Card, it will tell you the address of your polling station and the time that it opens and closes in the top left corner of the card.
If you don’t have a Voter Information Card, you can call Elections Canada at 1-800-463-6868 to find out the name and location of your polling station.
