Raise Your Glass for Conservation: Scarlet Ibis Pub’s Craft Beer Gives Back

A beer a day builds new trails, hooray!

Remote pub donated $2,200 to support upgrades to the North Coast Trail

A little goes a long way over time, and that’s exactly what the Scarlet Ibis Pub and Restaurant has just demonstrated.

The Island’s most remote bar has a lot of loyal patrons, and they set up a system to use their business to give back to the community.

They partnered up with the Longwood Brewery in Nanaimo in 2021 to brew the North Coast Trail Ale, a craft beer that helps support its namesake.

Since then, they’ve put aside 25 cents from the sale of every can, waiting till those quarters started piling up.

Last week, it was finally time to add them all together.

“We are thrilled to announce that together, we have raised a fantastic amount of $2,200 for the BC Parks Foundation!” the Scarlet Ibis Staff said in a Facebook Post.

“We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who supported this amazing cause. Your generosity and enthusiasm made a significant impact on preserving and protecting our beautiful parks in British Columbia.”

The pub owners travelled down from Holberg (near the northern tip of the Island) to present BC Parks and the BC Park Foundation with a $2,200 cheque to support upgrades to the North Coast Trail.

“The specific upgrades that will be done are still being discussed,” said Aaron Miller, BC Parks section head for the North Island west coast told BlackPress Media.

“Whether it’s infrastructure-related in the park, conservation-type projects… I think there’s an opportunity to work with the Ibis and see if there’s anything that they want us to use [the money for].”

Whatever project they choose, the support will keep coming.

The pub will be continuing the donation program.

If you’re in Holberg and stop by, get a North Coast Trail Ale.

It’s not just beer you’re buying. It’s better trails for all of us.

So go ahead and have that drink!

As the Scarlet Ibis staff said, “Let’s continue working together to protect and cherish our parks!”
