Morgan Jackson has been playing hockey in Courtenay since she was just four years old.
Now at 18, she’s stepped up her game—by a lot.
She leads the entire Canadian Sport School Hockey league female U18 prep division in scoring with 33 points (14 goals and 19 assists) in just 14 games.
Now, she’ll be repping our small town—by playing for our country!
She’ll be playing in red and white next month at the 2023 IIHF U18 Women’s World Championship in Östersund, Sweden.
Morgan tried out for Team Canada last August. After making their final roster, she and her team absolutely knocked out the US teams in a mini-tournament.
“Putting on the Canada jersey, when I wore it during the series, it was like, ‘Wow, this is a dream come true,’” Morgan excitedly told the Comox Valley Record of the experience.
Canada is the tournament’s defending champion and has medalled at each of the tournament’s 14 editions, winning gold six times.
Morgan is set to be a huge asset to the team.
“She exemplifies all the traits of a high-performance student-athlete and is a true leader in every sense of the word. Her dedication, commitment, passion and work ethic are incredible,” said her Couch at Shawnigan Lake, Carly Haggard.
“She truly is the definition of a team player, constantly putting the team’s needs in front of hers.”

She was scouted by several NCAA Div 1 programs and has committed to play at Northeastern University in Boston after she graduates from Shawnigan in 2024.
She hopes to continue playing for Team Canada at the U22 and senior levels.
Eventually, there’s a good chance you’ll be able to catch this Courtenay girl skating circles around her opponents at the Olympics.
