If you like spectacular waterfalls and dramatic suspension bridges, this article is for you.
Just two kilometres from downtown Campbell River, Vancouver Island, is an outdoor gem — Elk Falls Provincial Park, established in 1940.
The falls, measuring 25 metres in height, plunge into a rocky canyon. Visitors to the park can experience a suspension bridge that holds you 18 metres in the air (for a great view) and hiking trails that take you through the most significant stand of old-growth Douglas fir trees on the North Island (North of the Central Island’s Cathedral Grove).
Elk Falls Provincial Park is also a great base camp for day trips to nearby Gold River, Sayward Forest, Kelsey Bay, and Rock Bay.
