What We Love: Chrome Island Lighthouse

Public outcry has kept the light station open every time the Coast Guard tries to close it

Since 1891, the lighthouse has navigated boats around Deep Bay, Denman Island, and Hornby Island

One of the few remaining manned lighthouses along the BC coast, the resident lightkeeper has saved many a distressed mariner over the years.

Lately, the Light Station faces a storm of its own, as the Canadian Coast Guard has repeatedly threatened to de-staff it.

However, public pressure from mariners, floatplane operators, and those boaters has so far kept this from occurring.
