Dakota Bear and Casey Desjarlais will take the stage in Spirit Square this Thursday July 28th. And you don’t want to miss it.
Dakota Bear is a hip hop artist, activist, father, entrepreneur, poet, consultant, speaker and role model. He’s only 27, but he’s already lived a big life.
He has shared the stage with legendary hip-hop artists like Bone Thugs n Harmony and Redman & Method Man. He’s also performed for youth in remote northern communities and at rallies of more than 30,000 people.
As kid from Treaty 6 Territory in Saskachewan, he got hooked on hip hop watching Eminem’s film 8 Mile about Detroit. Now he uses rap and hip hop to talk about his own experiences as an Indigenous person.
Bear and his partner, Casey Desjarlais, launched Land Back Records this year to amplify Indigenous artists and musicians.
Desjarlais will join Bear at the performance. The multi-talented drummer and singer is Nehiyaw & Anishinaabe (Cree & Ojibway) from Treaty 4. She also operates their clothing line and business, Decolonial Clothing.
Come see this powerhouse couple for free this Thursday July 28th at Spirit Square. The show starts at 7 p.m.
The River Concert Series is presented by the City of Campbell River and 99.7 the River.
